Tom is a vintage connoisseur of the hospitality industry and Outer Banks piracy. Piracy goes back to Tom's lineage - he is an alumnus of East Carolina University (Go Pirates!) with a degree in business administration. He added subsequent courses in coastal marine resources though this was not required for relocating to the Outer Banks in 1981. With brief interludes bartending in Breckenridge, CO, and serving as a wine representative for City Beverage, Tom has worked at several beach establishments including J. Fleming Mundes (the predecessor to Kelly's), The Carolinian, and A Restaurant by George (owned by Mike Kelly). This seasoned experience underlies the genteel persona of Penguin Isle that Tom brought to Penguin Isle in 1999 as the general manager.

Tom returns to his pirate roots at Pamlico Jack's. He and his crew boast the most spectacular sunset views and the boldest outdoor bar on the Outer Banks. Who can challenge you when you have your own pirate ship! Guests enjoy a warm welcome and gracious evening under Tom's care. Who said pirates had no manners!

Pamlico Jack, AKA "Steve The Dream" started his "Musical Magical Mystery Tour" in the mid '50s after seeing Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show. Although he saw him in black & white on a 12 inch Magnavox TV screen, Steve was catapulted into "The Living Color" world of music and acting, where he remains to this day.

The first mobile DJ on the Outer Banks, he started his career at the gone but not forgotten Nags Header Hotel & Tap Room playing vinyl 45's and combing his long, greased back, Elvis look-a-like hair. He moved to Chapel Hill, NC to spin records and entertain the masses at World Famous Clarence's Bar & Grill.

The Fall of '75 saw him move on to N.Y.C. to pursue a career in the world of fashion modeling and television commercials working in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Paris, Italy and Germany. Steve worked with fashion designers Calvin Klein, Georgio Armani, Pierre Cardin, Ralph Lauren and many others here and abroad. His time in N.Y.C. and Los Angeles also included work in many TV commercials. He did spots for Coca Cola, Dentyne Gum, Embassy Suites Hotels, and many others. There was also work in films such as "Saturday Night Fever" with John Travolta, "Hudson Hawk" with Bruce Willis as well as TV shows and soap operas.

Moving back to his beloved Outer Banks in '93, he resumed his mobile DJ career. In the Spring of 2009, Mike Kelly, a long-time friend and fellow pirate asked him to sign on and be Captain of the now World Famous Pamlico Jack's. As they say, the rest is history. So come on by and make some with us.

It has only been a year since Greg and Carol Rothenberger came here bringing us there remarkable style of art and creativity. Since then, they have taken on writing and illustrating children's books and help with their community by volunteering time and working with children. Greg and Carol have spent most of their lives in Virginia. Along with their children, they now reside on the Outer Banks. They are no strangers to the Arts, having spent 20 years as illustrators, portrait artist, fashion consultant and living designer. Together they bring new and creative masterpieces of art and the World of Whatsits to you.

Greg Rothenberger, having worked as a Naval multimedia engineer, retired his life as a privateer to become a pirate aboard the Pamlico Pearl as the resident artist drawing caricatures and custom special orders. He provides children and adults with far more than just pictures to take home. Carol Rothenberger, also beginning a life here on the Outer Banks, has captured the heart of hundreds of people with the creation of the Whatsit and the Whatsit workshop. Being created from a single trash can of fabrics and a little imagination, these lovable little guys came to life bringing joy and laughter to all ages.

Now giving thanks to Kelly's hospitality, they are able to share with you their remarkable style of art and the wonderful World of the Whatsits. For more adventures, visit them at Pamlico Jack's Restaurant or contact them here.
